Paradise Garden Project June 2013

At the corner of Stillview and Hymus, Pointe-Claire, Wanda mobilized the city, and several members to transform an overgrown site.

Members brought plants and water from home.
Here are before and after pictures.

Two views of the vines and bushes

on the edge of what used to be a gas station.

Pedestrians had never seen anything like this.
No one offered to help?

Wanda and her friend did a lot of hacking,
chopping, sweating to clear the site.

A small sample of the garbage found
under the mound of vines.

A juniper and a honey suckle were spared
(or Wanda and friend ran out of energy.)

The next day, a crew of 11 including Wanda
moved in with shovels, clippers, plants and water.

Wanda explains how she worked
through the red tape and
what the crew would do today.

The garden was roughed out and the volunteers dug in.
The soil was amazingly good.

Lasagna gardening starts with wet newspapers
plus top soil provided by the city.

Plants are added.

Voilà, a total transformation
in 4 hours Saturday morning.

By the end of the work, the wind had picked up.
Thank you to Wanda for the idea and for making it happen,
to the city for their help and to the volunteers for their enthsiasm and hard work.
